Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the VEMD8082 silicon PIN photodiode, an innovative component designed to offer improved sensitivity in biomedical applications. The VEMD8082 provides enhanced sensitivity, essential for precise detection applications. With dimensions of 4.8 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.5 mm, its compact size facilitates integration into low-profile devices such as smartwatches. Its sensitive radiant detection area of 6.0 mm² allows for greater light capture, and its reverse light current of 40 µA at 850 nm offers an 18% to 20% increase compared to previous generation solutions, depending on the wavelength.

Additionally, its low capacitance of 46 pF reduces interference and improves measurement accuracy, while rise and fall times of 40 ns enable higher sampling rates compared to previous models. Its ±65° half-sensitivity angle provides wider coverage for light detection. It is compatible with infrared reflow soldering processes, facilitating integration into manufacturing workflows, and complies with RoHS and Vishay Green standards, being halogen-free and environmentally friendly.
