New Series of Vishay SiC Schottky Diodes

New series of Vishay SiC schottky diodes: efficiency and high performance

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new series of silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes with 650 V and 1200 V ratings in standard SOT-227 packaging. They are designed for high-power, high-frequency applications where energy efficiency and loss reduction are critical.

Thanks to their advanced thin wafer technology, these diodes minimize switching and conduction losses, optimizing performance in demanding systems. Compared to conventional silicon diodes, Vishay’s new SiC Schottky diode series offers lower voltage drop and reduced capacitive load, improving overall system efficiency.

Key Benefits of the New SiC Diodes

These diodes stand out for their low capacitive load (Q C) and their low forward voltage drop (V F), allowing faster switching with lower losses. This results in higher energy efficiency and reduced heat generation—key factors in demanding industrial applications.

Another important benefit is their ability to operate at temperatures up to +175°C, with a positive temperature coefficient in V<><> allowing parallel configurations without the risk of uneven current redistribution. Additionally, they are UL certified, ensuring safety and reliability in critical applications.

Their SOT-227 packaging facilitates integration into existing designs without the need for additional modifications. Additionally, these diodes offer high resistance to electrical transients, extending their lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.

Market Applications

Vishay’s new SiC Schottky diodes improve efficiency and reduce losses in multiple applications:

    • Renewable Energy: They enhance efficiency in photovoltaic inverters and wind systems by reducing switching losses and thermal dissipation.
    • Electric Mobility: They optimize charging stations and converters for electric vehicles, reducing charging times and improving efficiency.
    • Power Supplies and Energy Conversion: They enhance stability and reduce losses in SMPS, UPS, and DC-DC converters for telecommunications.Technical Specifications and Available Models

The series includes models with currents ranging from 40 A to 240 A in dual diode configurations, as well as single-phase bridge versions of 50 A and 90 A. They offer a forward voltage drop (VF) as low as 1.36 V and a capacitive load (QC) of up to 56 nC in the lower current models. These diodes have high surge current capability, allowing them to withstand load spikes without compromising system stability. Thanks to their efficiency and robustness, they provide an advanced solution for demanding applications, offering significant advantages over conventional technologies. With this new series, Vishay strengthens its leadership in power conversion and power electronics solutions, providing optimized components for the most demanding markets.
