MSS-IO Electronic IO-Link Pushbutton with No Wear for Industrial Automation
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
Bidirectional communication, hygienic design, and wear-free technology in a single device
The digitalization of industrial automation increasingly requires devices that can not only switch but also communicate. With the new MSS-IO, SCHURTER takes a step further by integrating an IO-Link interface into its well-known MSS electronic switch. The result is a robust, wear-free pushbutton designed for Industry 4.0 environments where real-time monitoring and diagnostics are essential.
MSS-IO: Wear-Free Electronic IO-Link Pushbutton for Industrial Automation
The MSS-IO is based on a completely wear-free resistive detection principle. Instead of using capacitive technology or mechanical mechanisms, actuation is detected through a precise change in electrical resistance. This approach allows for the detection of minimal pressure changes (operating force of 1 to 3 N) while maintaining the robustness required for continuous industrial processes. With a lifetime exceeding 20 million actuations and no moving parts, maintenance is minimized and long-term reliability is maximized.
The addition of the IO-Link interface enables bidirectional communication, in-operation parameterization, and real-time diagnostics. Connection is made via a standard M12 connector, simplifying integration into existing architectures. This opens the door to predictive maintenance strategies and advanced device condition monitoring, reducing downtime and improving system traceability.
From a mechanical and environmental perspective, the MSS-IO is designed for demanding environments. It offers IP67 and IP69K front protection, withstands temperatures from –40 °C to +85 °C, and passes a 96-hour salt fog test according to IEC 60068-2-11. Its smooth, sealed surface makes it resistant to water, dirt, and cleaning agents, making it an ideal solution for hygienically sensitive applications such as food processing or laboratory automation.
Available in momentary (MO) or latching (LA) versions, with configurable output (PNP/NPN/Push-Pull/NO/NC) and 24 VDC supply, the MSS-IO offers full flexibility to adapt to various control schemes. Additionally, its multicolor illumination and modern design provide clear operational status indication, particularly useful in complex machinery or automated production lines.
IO-Link Pushbutton Applications
Its features make it particularly relevant for industrial automation, robotics, specialized machinery, and environments where precision, process reliability, and digital communication are essential. In scenarios with intensive cycles or frequent cleaning, the absence of moving parts provides a clear advantage over traditional mechanical pushbuttons.
