New SCHURTER EKO High-Voltage Fuses: reliable protection up to 1000 VDC for industrial and energy applications
The rise in voltage and power in industrial and energy systems presents new challenges in electrical protection. Moreover, applications such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure, energy storage systems (BESS), power converters, and high-power industrial equipment operate with increasingly demanding DC voltages and high currents. In these environments, effective protection against short circuits and overcurrents is not just a matter of regulatory compliance—it is also a key factor in ensuring safety, system reliability, and operational continuity.
SCHURTER EKO Series: HV Fuses for Demanding Environments
SCHURTER addresses these needs with the new EKO series, a range of high-voltage fuses designed for high-performance industrial and energy applications. The series covers rated voltages up to 1000 VDC, reaching 1250 VAC in certain versions. It also offers current ranges from 50 A to 1100 A. With a breaking capacity of up to 50 kA in DC and up to 100 kA in AC for selected models, it ensures a high level of safety even under severe fault conditions.
From a construction standpoint, EKO fuses feature a high-strength ceramic body and tinned copper alloy terminals. This ensures long-term electrical and mechanical stability. They are also designed to operate in demanding environmental conditions, withstanding vibration, mechanical shock, chemical exposure, and a wide temperature range from −40 °C to +125 °C. Additionally, the series offers various mounting options—Flush End, DIN-Rail, US Style Bolted Tag, and Bolt-on—to facilitate integration into different system designs. As an option, visual indicators and a microswitch can be added for fuse status monitoring.
Main Applications and Functional Benefits
SCHURTER EKO fuses are especially suited for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, energy storage systems (BESS), manual disconnect devices, UPS, inverters, variable frequency drives, and high-power industrial equipment. Their high DC breaking capacity, combined with thermal and mechanical robustness, enables effective protection of critical systems, reducing the risk of downstream component damage and enhancing overall installation safety. Additionally, compliance with IEC, UL, and GB/T standards, as well as CE, RoHS, and REACH directives, simplifies certification for projects with international reach.
