Vishay 193 PUR-SI 600 V snap-in aluminum electrolytic capacitors for industrial DC-link applications

High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors

Higher rated voltage, higher ripple current, and fewer components in high-voltage buses

In power electronics designs where the DC bus exceeds 800 V—or even 1000 V—the architecture of the capacitor bank has a direct impact on system reliability, PCB footprint, and overall cost. The extension of Vishay BCcomponents’ 193 PUR-SI series addresses exactly this need: snap-in aluminum electrolytic capacitors now rated at 550 V and 600 V, enabling the simplification of traditional topologies based on multiple devices connected in series.

Long-life snap-in aluminum electrolytic capacitors up to 600 V for DC-link applications: Vishay Intertechnology 193 PUR-SI series

The 193 PUR-SI series extends its voltage range from the traditional 400–450 V up to 500–600 V, with capacitance values from 47 µF to 820 µF. These capacitors feature a specified lifetime of 5,000 hours at +105 °C and are designed for 24/7 applications with more than 25 years of operation at 60 °C.

One of its key differentiators is its ripple current capability, up to 30% higher than standard solutions in equivalent packages, reaching values of up to 3.27 A. This is a critical advantage in high-power converters with demanding switching currents.

Available in 25 compact case sizes (from 22 × 25 mm to 35 × 60 mm), they feature a 3-pin snap-in version with guided polarity to improve mechanical stability on the PCB. They are polarized, non-solid electrolyte devices, housed in a cylindrical aluminum can with a blue insulating sleeve, compliant with IEC 60384-4 / EN 130300 and rated for climatic category up to 105 °C.

Real-world applications and design benefits

Traditionally, to handle DC bus voltages up to 1100 V, designers used three 400–450 V capacitors in series along with balancing resistors. This approach increases complexity, takes up space, and introduces potential points of failure.

With rated voltages up to 600 V, the 193 PUR-SI series allows for fewer series components and eliminates balancing circuits, simplifying the design, reducing the BOM, and freeing up PCB space. Additionally, the higher voltage headroom improves overall reliability and extends the system’s operational lifetime.

These features make it particularly relevant for solar inverters (PV), industrial drives and motor control, switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), UPS systems, welding and cutting equipment, industrial HVAC, BMS, and chargers in e-mobility environments.

In DC-link filtering, smoothing, or buffering applications, the combination of high ripple current, long lifetime, and compact size allows for optimized power density without compromising reliability.
