SCHURTER 5180 launch of filtered connector with IP67 protection
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
SCHURTER introduces the new 5180: a filtered connector with IP67 protection for demanding environments
The need to protect electronic equipment against dust, moisture, and harsh environmental conditions is growing in sectors such as industry, medical technology, and food processing. To meet these demands, SCHURTER has launched the new 5180, an inlet with an integrated filter that combines a compact design, an advanced sealing system, and IP67 protection toward the inside of the device. When paired with the corresponding V‑Lock cable, the assembly achieves IP54 protection when connected, providing a robust and reliable solution for critical applications.
SCHURTER 5180: Advanced sealing technology and high‑performance filtering
The SCHURTER 5180 is an IEC C14 or C18 connector with an integrated filter, developed in accordance with IEC 60320 and IEC 60529 standards. Its design incorporates multiple sealing gaskets that ensure complete sealing toward the inside of the equipment, achieving an IP67 protection rating. This makes it an ideal choice for devices exposed to fine dust, moisture, or intensive cleaning processes.
The system is complemented by the new blue V‑Lock cable, which incorporates dedicated sealing elements and a retention mechanism that prevents accidental disconnections. When both components are used together, the assembly achieves IP54 protection, ensuring resistance to splashes and particles.
The 5180 is available in standard and high‑performance versions. The latter incorporate nanocrystalline cores in the coils, which significantly improve attenuation and electromagnetic interference behavior. In addition, SCHURTER offers variants with X1 and Y1 capacitors, high‑inductance versions, and models with a metal flange for front or rear mounting.
The range includes options for medical applications, complying with IEC/UL 60601‑1 (1 MOOP, 1 MOPP), as well as Class II versions suitable for environments requiring 2 MOPP.
Protection and reliability in critical environments: applications of the SCHURTER 5180
The new 5180 is designed for equipment that must operate in environments where the presence of dust, moisture, or intensive cleaning processes is common. Among the most notable applications are:
- Industry and automation: machinery exposed to particles, oils, or splashes.
- Medical sector: equipment requiring frequent cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization; applications with direct patient contact (2 MOPP).
- Food industry: devices subjected to regular washing and humid environments.
- Laboratory and measurement equipment: where EMI filtering reliability is critical.
- Mobile or outdoor applications: such as emergency vehicles or portable equipment.
The combination of advanced filtering, IP67 sealing, and compatibility with the V‑Lock system makes the SCHURTER 5180 a versatile solution for any application requiring environmental protection and electrical stability.
