AKS17 by BOGEN: high-resolution absolute measurement for linear and rotary applications in confined spaces
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
When precision, available space, and ruggedness allow for no compromises
In applications such as linear motors, actuators, torque motors, or electromedical equipment, engineers face the challenge of integrating increasingly precise measuring systems without increasing design size or compromising system reliability. In this context, the new AKS17 from BOGEN Magnetics is presented as an absolute magnetic sensing solution designed for industrial applications requiring high-precision linear or rotary measurement in demanding environments. Thanks to its compact dimensions and IP67 protection, the sensor can be easily integrated into equipment where space is limited and working conditions are particularly demanding. Furthermore, it is compatible with both linear scales of up to approximately 3 meters and large-diameter rings for rotary applications.
A compact absolute magnetic sensor with up to 24-bit resolution
The AKS17 offers an absolute resolution of between 21 and 24 bits, depending on the selected configuration, as well as an incremental resolution of 18 bits. It features BiSS-C and SSI communication interfaces, alongside a parallel incremental output via ABZ RS422 signals, with an optional UVW output upon request. Among its main features are its extremely compact format, measuring 28 mm in length, 16 mm in width, and a height of 6.6 mm for the Molex connector version or 3.4 mm for the FFC version. The sensor supports different mounting orientations, can use Molex connectors or an FFC cable, and is compatible with the AKSZ programming and calibration tool. Furthermore, it is designed to withstand vibrations, contamination, humidity, and temperature variations, offering an IP67 degree of protection for applications in harsh industrial environments.
Designed for linear motors, torque motors, and electromedical devices
The versatility of the AKS17 allows it to be used in a wide variety of OEM applications where positioning accuracy is critical. In linear motors and actuators, it facilitates absolute position measurement without contact and without mechanical wear. In torque motors and large-diameter rotary systems, it enables the implementation of high-resolution feedback solutions compatible with different magnetic scale configurations. It is also particularly interesting for electromedical devices, where the combination of reduced size, precision, and reliability can simplify the mechanical and electronic integration of the system. Furthermore, the availability of different mounting orientations and interface options helps reduce design constraints in new developments.
