New series of isolation amplifiers from Vishay

New VIA series of isolation amplifiers from Vishay: precise, compact, and robust isolation.

In power electronics, renewable energy, or critical measurement systems applications, the need to isolate analog signals with millivolt-level precision remains a top technical challenge. Especially in noisy industrial environments, where electromagnetic interference and common-mode transients can compromise signal fidelity, having a reliable isolation solution is key to ensuring stable, safe measurements free from frequent recalibrations.

With these demanding environments in mind, Vishay has launched a new series of high-reliability isolation amplifiers, including the VIA0050DD, VIA0250DD, and VIA2000SD models, which offer industry-leading performance. As official distributors, at RC Microelectrónica we present the key technical highlights of this new family, designed for critical environments where precision and immunity are top priorities.

Capacitive isolation technology: uncompromising precision

The new VIA devices are based on Vishay’s proprietary capacitive isolation technology, which delivers excellent common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) along with fast and accurate signal response. Specifically, the VIA0250DD and VIA2000SD models achieve CMTI values up to 150 kV/μs, ensuring robust performance even under severe disturbances typically found in high-speed switching industrial applications.

The series covers a wide differential input range:

  • VIA0050DD: ±50 mV. Ideal for isolated current sensing using low-value shunts in space-constrained applications.
  • VIA0250DD: ±250 mV. Suitable for both isolated current and voltage sensing.
  • VIA2000SD: 0.02 V to 2 V. Optimal for voltage bus monitoring, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, or direct measurement in power converters.

This facilitates the device’s adaptation to various sensing configurations, allowing simple integration in both new and existing designs.

Reliability in complex industrial environments

Precision lies at the core of this new range: gain error of ±0.05%, with a gain drift as low as 15 ppm/°C in the VIA0050DD and VIA0250DD models. This level of thermal stability ensures consistent measurements over time and eliminates the need for unnecessary recalibrations under changing operating conditions. In the VIA2000SD model, designed for higher input ranges, gain error remains at ±0.3%, with similarly well-controlled drift (45 ppm/°C).

The bandwidth is also tailored to each model’s requirements: the VIA0050DD and VIA0250DD reach up to 250 kHz, while the VIA2000SD goes up to 400 kHz. This enables fast and precise measurements, well beyond what is typical for isolation amplifiers based on traditional optocouplers.

Additionally, all models offer a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 70 dB, making them an excellent choice for applications where signal integrity is paramount, such as critical power systems, renewable energy, or precision industrial control.

Applications

Their design is clearly aimed at industrial, medical, and energy environments where signal isolation and precision are essential. Key applications include:

  • Monitoring of voltage buses in DC or three-phase systems
  • Closed-loop industrial motor control
  • Solar inverters and bidirectional chargers
  • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
  • Current measurement with low-resistance shunts (compatible with Vishay’s WSBE series)
  • Power distribution systems with galvanic isolation between control and power stages
