New Vishay standard rectifiers in Power DFN6546A package: higher current, lower profile, and improved thermal performance
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
Higher power density and efficiency for current electronic designs
The trend toward increasingly compact equipment is forcing electronic designers to optimize available PCB space to the utmost without compromising electrical or thermal robustness. In polarity protection, rail-to-rail protection, and power conversion applications, finding components capable of handling high currents in small form factors remains one of the main challenges. In this context, Vishay Intertechnology introduces its new SE50N6x, SE80N6x, SE100N6x, and SE120N6x standard rectifier series, the industry’s first devices of this type in a Power DFN6546A package featuring an ultra-low profile of 0.88 mm and wettable flanks terminals. Thanks to this new construction, these devices deliver currents up to 12 A, improved thermal behavior, and a surge current capacity of up to 320 A.
Standard rectifiers in DFN6546A package with currents up to 12 A
Vishay’s new rectifier series feature a 6.5 mm x 4.6 mm DFN6546A package with a typical height of just 0.88 mm, enabling better utilization of available PCB space. They are available with maximum reverse voltages of 200 V, 400 V, and 600 V, and average rectified forward currents of 5 A, 8 A, 10 A, and 12 A depending on the part number. Key features include a low forward voltage drop down to 0.77 V, a typical reverse leakage current of less than 0.1 µA, and an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +175 °C. Additionally, they incorporate a planar oxide junction design, ESD compatibility according to IEC 61000-4-2 in air discharge mode, AEC-Q101 qualified versions, MSL 1 moisture sensitivity level, and RoHS compliance.
Advantages for power protection in industrial, commercial, and automotive applications
These rectifiers have been developed for power line polarity protection and rail-to-rail protection applications. Furthermore, they are designed for commercial, industrial, and automotive environments. Their advanced construction and die placement technology allow for an increased copper content. This also facilitates the use of larger dies, promoting better thermal dissipation and higher current handling capabilities.
Compared to equivalent solutions in an SMPC (TO-277A) package with the same footprint, the new series offer a 10% lower profile. In addition, they provide 20% higher nominal currents. Furthermore, the low forward voltage helps reduce power losses and improve overall system efficiency. The wettable flanks terminals allow for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). This eliminates the need for X-ray inspection during manufacturing processes.
