New Schurter DTCD and DTCJ SMT DIP switches: maximum miniaturization for space-critical designs
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
Save up to 46% PCB space with new 1.27 mm pitch SMT DIP switches.
In the design of advanced electronic systems, high PCB component density represents one of the most complex challenges for design engineers and hardware technicians. The constant need to reduce end-product size without compromising operational reliability often conflicts with the physical limitations imposed by traditional switching components. When addressing or configuring parameters on densely populated electronic boards, standard 2.54 mm pitch components consume excessive space, limiting routing flexibility. To solve this technical issue, it becomes essential to integrate ultra-miniaturized switching solutions optimized to enhance hardware architecture flexibility and streamline automated manufacturing processes.
Technical specifications
The new 1.27 mm pitch (half-pitch) DIP switches from Schurter’s DTCD and DTCJ series are presented as the ideal solution for space-critical SMT applications. Thanks to their low-profile design with a height of just 2.2 mm, these components enable up to 46% PCB space savings compared to conventional 2.54 mm solutions.
From a technical standpoint, the two series differ in terminal type: the DTCD series features SMD gullwing terminals, while the DTCJ series uses J-bend terminals. Both models are built with a black plastic housing, white actuator, and copper alloy contacts/terminals with gold plating, ensuring stable electrical performance of up to 100 mA at 50 VDC (steady-state) or 25 mA at 24 VDC (frequent switching conditions).
- Pitch dimensions: 1.27 mm half-pitch for surface mount (SMD/SMT) assembly.
- Position options: available in 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10-position versions.
- Contact resistance: maximum 100 mΩ initial (up to 200 mΩ after testing).
- Mechanical robustness: service life of up to 1,000 mechanical actuations with an operating force of ≤5 N.
- Actuator options: standard recessed actuator (H2) or recessed actuator with Mylar sealing (H3).
- Temperature range: certified operating and storage temperature from -40 °C to +85 °C.
Applications and benefits
The miniaturization and robustness of the DTCD and DTCJ series deliver direct competitive advantages for procurement managers and electronics engineers across multiple B2B sectors. In industrial control systems and communication equipment—such as RS485 automation networks or Modbus protocols—they simplify physical node addressing and parameter configuration in densely packed electrical cabinets.
Likewise, their thermal reliability and compact dimensions make them well suited for server hardware (BIOS/CMOS configurations), consumer appliances, and portable medical diagnostic devices. Being compatible with reflow soldering and supplied in Tape & Reel format, they integrate seamlessly into automated SMT assembly lines, reducing insertion times, optimizing the supply chain, and minimizing overall manufacturing costs.
