1200 V FRED Pt® Gen 7 rectifiers.
High-precision motion control with Bogen Magnetics’ miniaturized sensors
New 1 A, 2 A, and 3 A rectifiers optimized to minimize switching losses in high-density and high-voltage applications.
In the design of compact power stages, thermal management and the reduction of switching losses are critical challenges. To address these needs, Vishay has launched its new series of 1200 V FRED Pt® Gen 7 hyperfast rectifiers. These components, housed in the low-profile SMPC HV package, integrate planar structure technologies and platinum doping lifetime control to ensure reliability under demanding operating conditions.
Technical features and performance of the Gen 7 series.
The new range covers devices with forward currents of 1 A, 2 A, and 3 A, all with a repetitive reverse voltage of 1200 V. Their design is focused on optimizing the balance between forward voltage drop and reverse recovery time.
- Dynamic Performance: The devices achieve hyperfast recovery times, with typical values of 50 ns and a reverse recovery charge reduced to 105 nC. This optimization of stored electrical charge minimizes losses during switching and power dissipation, allowing for much more efficient operation.
- SMPC HV Package: With dimensions of 4.3 mm x 6.5 mm and a 1.1 mm profile, it is compatible with the TO-277A board footprint. It stands out for offering a minimum creepage distance of 5.4 mm and a comparative tracking index greater than or equal to 600 (Material Group 1), facilitating its use in high-voltage applications.
- Thermal Operation: They support a maximum operating junction temperature of +175 °C, ensuring robustness under high-temperature conditions.
Applications and benefits in power systems.
Thanks to their low junction capacitance (from 7.25 pF at 4 V, 1 MHz) and optimized structure, these rectifiers are ideal for high‑frequency, high‑density stages.
Designers can integrate these components as:
- Clamping, snubber, and freewheeling diodes in flyback-type auxiliary power supplies.
- Start-up functions and desaturation protection for high-voltage IGBT and MOSFET drivers.
- High-frequency rectifiers in Cuk and SEPIC circuits for LED lighting applications.
The use of these versions allows for improved system efficiency without increasing design size, while maintaining a high level of reliability due to their planar construction. Additionally, AEC-Q101 qualified versions are available for applications requiring higher levels of rigor.
